History revealed in land & sea

Kéa has a very rich history that is reflected in every corner. The settlement of Aghia Irini was one of the most significant cultural centers in the Aegean Sea from the end of the Neolithic Period. Some of the most interesting monuments in Karthea include the Doric temple of goddess Athena (late 6th century BC) and the archaic Temple of Pythion Apollo (530 BC). Kéa’s seabed museum of historic shipwrecks, a marine park, one of just a few of its kind in the world. Is being launched off the island of Kéa, with historic shipwrecks including ‘Titanic’s’ twin sister, the Britannic and a German ‘Junkers Ju 52’ airplane and consisting of three protected sea areas, each covering 36 hectares.
